My Teaching Philosophy
I believe learning is a process built upon healthy and supportive relationships. Education is not only about learning how to solve an equation, write a book report, or memorize the scientific method; it is about forming the whole child; their hearts, and minds, their emotional and social development and their growth as a person. I believe my role as the teacher is to support my students' in their discovery of the world around them. I will provide an environment with structure, consistency, and the freedom to try new and challenging things, even when they fail. I believe that students need to make personal connections with the content and construct their understanding through hands-on learning. I believe that building healthy and supportive relationships with my students will foster a positive environment where students will grow and develop socially, emotionally, and academically. My teaching philosophy is based on the work of John Dewey and his theory of constructivism. I will support my learners by encouraging hands-on discovery at learning centers and through real-world projects. I believe that students learn best when they given multiple methods of learning. I will support my learners by creating an environment of discovery; encouraging students to collaborate, explore, and to be unafraid of making a mistakes along the way.

My Classroom Management Plan
My classroom management philosophy is based upon the work of Wong, Love and Logic, and Marzano. The focus of my classroom is to instill behavioral expectations using rules and procedures while also building relationships of acceptance (Wong and Love and Logic). It is focused on fostering student engagement and as well as respect for self and neighbor and belief in the capabilities of each student. Students’ self-concepts will be fostered and nurtured by encouraging them to try, but also by giving them the freedom to fail. Reinforced by support from the teacher, students are encouraged to actively engage in learning. Student will be given options and shared control in order to increase autonomy, and behavior will be regulated by using logical consequences with empathy (Love and Logic. See appendix A). To guide student behavior and ensure that the classroom is a safe environment, my classroom will be guided by rules and procedures (Wong, 2018).
